Uganda´s 13MW Bugoye HPP Commissioned Utilizing Two Mavel Francis Turbines

Benesov, Czech Republic – 11 January 2010 - Mavel, a.s. announced that the hydroelectric powerplant Bugoye (“Bugoye HPP”) was commissioned on October 7, 2009 by the President of the Republic of Uganda H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni. The new 13 MW power plant is located on the Mubuku River at the foot of the Rwenzori Mountains in the Kasese district of western Uganda.

Mavel was contracted by Tronder Power Limited, the owner, to supply two horizontal Francis turbines with inner runner diameter of 1350 mm. In addition, Mavel supplied generators, bifurication, inlet valves and hydraulic units.

The hydropower plant has head of 159 meters and flow of 2 x 5 cubic meters per second. The commissioning of the power plant was 19 months after project signing in March 2008.
