Czech Republic – 4 June 2009 - Mavel,
a.s. announced that has signed a contract with Vaasa Engineering
Oy to provide two Kaplan turbines for Kuokkastenkoski
hydroelectric power plant ("Kuokkastenkoski HPP") in
Finland. This project, owned by Pohjois-Karjalan Sahko
Oy, is located 120 kilometers north of Kuopio. Mavel will
supply two MAVEL KVK/D1450K5 double regulated vertical
Kaplan turbines with runner diameter of 1450 mm and five
runner blades, generators, draft tube, hydraulic system,
lubrication and cooling system. Vaasa will supply all
the electrical equipment.
The Kuokkastenkoski HPP has a net head of 10 meters and flow of 20 cubic meters per second. Each turbine unit will provide 880 kW of installed power for total plant installed power of 1.76 MW. The contract was signed in February 2009 with commissioning expected in December 2010.
