Mavel, a.s. Receives Contract To Provide Kaplan Turbine For Finnholm HPP Project .

Benesov, Czech Republic – 5 January 2009. Mavel, a.s. announced that it has been awarded a contract by Vaasa Engineering Oy of Finland to supply one double regulated Kaplan bulb turbine to the Finnholm hydroelectric power project. The Finnholm site is on the Ähtävänjoki River in the Western part of middle Finland and is owned by Oy Herrfors Ab.

Mavel will provide the steel intake and draft tube, hydraulic unit, lubricating and cooling system and the turbine. This Mavel KA1800K4 turbine has runner diameter of 1800 mm and four runner blades. Finnholm HPP has net head of 5.35 meters and flow of 18.5 cms. The installed power will be 862 kW.

Mavel expects to commission the turbine in September 2009, approximately 12 months from contract signing. Earlier this year, Mavel commissioned the Herrfors 1 and Herrfors 2 turbines. Herrfors 2 was a renovation of an old Tampella S-turbine and Herrfors 1 was a replacement of an Esser & Wysch turbine with a Mavel KA 1560 K3 turbine, this contract was also in Finland with Vaasa Engineering Oy.
