Benesov, Czech Republic  –10 January 2009. Mavel, a.s. announced the commissioning of the 10 MW Concepcion hydroelectric power plant ( “Concepcion HPP” ) on the Piedra River in the Chiriqui Province of Panama. The site is 500 kilometers west of Panama City in the Chico River basin.

Istmus Hydro Power Corporation is the owner of the power plant and contracted a consortium of ABB, Inc. and Mavel, a.s. to provide the equipment and supervise the installation and commissioning.

Mavel provided two horizontal Francis turbines – type Mavel FSH1050, generators (Alconza of Spain) and hydraulic equipment. ABB, Inc. provide electrical and control systems, switchgear and the substation.

The Concepcion HPP has maximum gross head of 65 meters and maximum flow of 20 cubic meters per second. Total installed power is 10 MW.
