Mavel, a.s. Awarded Three Contracts in British Columbia

Benesov, Czech Republic – 3 April 2008- Mavel, a.s. announced that it has been awarded three contracts in British Columbia for the supply of Pelton turbines and related equipment. The contracts cover the mechanical supply for three greenfield hydroelectric power projects: Clemina Creek ("Clemina Creek HPP"), Serpentine Creek ("Serpentine Creek HPP") and Upper Clowhom River ("Upper Clowhom HPP").

The contracts were awarded through Canadian Projects Limited, acting as Project Manager and Project Engineer on behalf of the owners of the three projects. Both the Clemina Creek HPP and the Serpentine Creek HPP are owned by Canadian Hydro Developers, Inc. The Upper Clowhom HPP is part of a development owned by Hydromax Energy Ltd., a division of ENMAX Corporation.

The Serpentine Creek HPP is located 270 kilometers north of Kamloops in British Columbia, just north of the town of Blue River. The project will utilize 277.5 metres of head and flow of 4.5 cubic metres per second. Serpentine Creek HPP will use one Mavel vertical Pelton turbine with five jets and a 1060 mm diameter runner. The plant, when completed in 2009, will have installed power of 10.5 megawatts.

The Clemina Creek HPP is located near the Serpentine Creek HPP and is 280 kilometers north of Kamloops, British Columbia. The site will utilize head of just over 206 metres and flow of 4.3 cubic metres per second. Mavel will install at this site another vertical Pelton turbine also with runner diameter of 1060 mm, five jets and speed of 720 rpm. In operation, the Clemina Creek HPP will have installed power of 11.0 megawatts.

For both the Clemina Creek HPP and the Serpentine Creek HPP, Mavel's scope also includes the generator (Elprom ZEM, Bulgaria), hydraulic systems (Vortex, Quebec) and valves (TB Hydro, Poland).

The Upper Clowhom HPP is located in southwest British Columbia approximately 100 kilometres north of Vancouver. The site has rated net head of 165.2 metres and discharge of 7.9 cubic metres per second. The new hydroelectric plant will utilize one Mavel Vertical Pelton turbine with inside runner diameter of 1700 mm for total installed power of 11.0 megawatts. Mavel's scope also includes a synchronous generator (Elprom ZEM, Bulgaria), hydraulic power unit (Vortex, Canada) and valves (TBHydro, Poland). Commissioning is expected for mid-2009.

Mavel will also provide installation, testing and commissioning supervision for the three projects.
